Description - Once Upon an Ordinary School Day by Colin McNaughton

It was an ordinary morning when the ordinary boy woke up, and it was an ordinary journey to school - but then Mr Gee bounced into the classroom and everything changed. Mr Gee plays rousing music which thunders around the classroom, and asks what it makes them think of. The dull grey world has been transformed into one of colour and excitement. 'Write a story about it!' laughs Mr Gee. And the ordinary boy began to write- the words just tumbled out of him pell- mell. And the places he went to, and the things he saw were extraordinary!

Book Review: Once Upon an Ordinary School Day by Colin McNaughton - Reviewed by (05 Jul 2013)

Once upon an ordinary school day is an interesting book.

The book starts off a little repetitive while it sets up the scene of the ordinary boy, in his ordinary room, he ate his ordinary breakfast then went to his ordinary school. Everything was ordinary until he met a new teacher and everything changed.

This story is very much about dreaming and what happens when you use your imagination and start thinking outside the box. The illustrations are really the key to the story, they are creative, colourful and you really get inside the head of the ordinary boy. Overall a fun read.
